Find Your Friends

'Find Your Friends' is a feature which allows you to conveniently find and follow friends who are already using DESTASH using your phone contacts.

What about my privacy?

Giving any app access to you phone contacts is something that rightly needs careful consideration. So before we describe exactly how it works we want to start off by confirming that this feature was specifically designed so that no raw contact information ever leaves your phone. With that let's describe how it works.

How does it work?

1. Any user who enables the 'Find Your Friends' feature will periodically have their contacts processed locally on their device.
2. Each contact phonenumber is one-way cryptographically hashed to an unintelligible string and sent to our servers.
3. Whenever one of these hashed strings is matched against a hashed user account phonenumber we can then flag it as a potential friend.

How do I setup 'Find Your Friends'?

1. Navigate to the 'Profile' screen and select 'Find My Friends'.
2. Allow access to contacts if requested.
3. Once access to contacts is initially given you may need to give us time to securely process your contacts. We recommend checking back at a later time to see if any matches have been found.
